Words of Bishop Tomáš for Lent 2025

(To be read at the end of the Holy Mass on the 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time and on Ash Wednesday)

Sisters and brothers,

I address you before the beginning of Lent. A time that is meant to strengthen us in trust in God's love, which is stronger than any evil.

Especially in the current time, when we are experiencing great and disturbing changes all over the world, I feel the urgent importance of spiritual support that we can draw from through an intense experience of the Lenten season.

As support for our shared experience of the Lenten period, we in the synodal team have prepared suggestions for daily silent moments for all of you.

It is about renewing our hope individually and collectively on our synodal journey through the power of prayer.

Prayer alone is capable of being the appropriate response to the change of the epoch we are living in. A change that we cannot grasp with reason or human cleverness, but only with trust that will grow from our prayer.

Therefore, I expressly ask each of you: get involved, and let us together renew our trust in God's love and closeness!

This is now the only essential thing that can lead our entire synodal process to a blessed outcome.

It is certainly necessary to address the specifics of synodal discernment, and I thank everyone who is doing so. But this discernment must be supported and carried by the prayer of us all.

Sisters and brothers, let us embrace the path of prayer for the Lenten period and the Easter octave.

You will find all the details in your parishes and on the website of the diocesan synod (synoda.bip.cz/rozjimani).

Thank you for your persistent shared prayer, and I bless you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit for a blessed experience of Lenten preparation for Easter and the Easter itself.
